As you are likely aware, Oregon has adopted new learning standards in math and English language arts. When standards change, the test that measures students’ progress toward those standards also changes. In other words, the State can’t measure new learning goals with an old test.
The new test is called the Smarter Balanced test. It’s different from the old test (OAKS) in many ways. To help students get ready for the test, and to support what we’re doing here at school to help them prepare, our school will periodically send home a few “Tips for Testing” until test time.
At our school, third through fifth students will take the test between March 5 and June 10. Please click on the Parent Resources in the left column to access tips for testing.
If you have questions about testing at our school, please contact our school office at 503-399-3604.
Thank you for all you do to encourage student success!
There will be no school for students on Friday, March 6, so teachers may prepare progress reports for the upcoming conferences. School will resume March 9, 2015.
The 2014-2015 PE schedules can be found in the Parent Resources tab.
Weddle Elementary School is pleased to welcome Wendy Roberts as principal, replacing Samantha Ragaisis, whose career move has taken her away from Salem/Keizer. Mrs. Roberts is a product of Salem-Keizer schools having attended Middle Grove and Scott Elementary Schools, Waldo Middle School and McKay High School. She earned her BA in Elementary Ed from WOU in 1991 and her MA in 2011 from Concordia University. Her educational career began in Salem at Kennedy Elementary where she taught for 15 years followed by service as a coach for five years at Lake Labish, Kennedy and Weddle.
We wish Ms. Ragaisis well in her future endeavors. She, along with her Green Bay Packers collection, will be missed by all.

Weddle families recently completed a survey regarding uniforms at school. Based on the results, the new revised uniform policy is as follows:
The Weddle uniform will consist of khaki pants, shorts, or skirts and either Forest Green or Black tops. Tee shirts, polo shirts, button down shirts, sweaters and hoodies are all allowed, however, only solid, forest green or black is permitted. There should be no designs, stripes, logos or graphics of any kind.
If your child needs to wear a sweater or sweatshirt, in the building during the school day, it must also follow this uniform policy. Coats and sweaters worn for traveling to and from school, as well as during recess, do not need to follow the uniform policy.
There are no specific standards for shoes but they should be safe, comfortable and appropriate for school activities, taking into consideration the student’s PE schedule. Flip-flops are never permitted at school.
Thank you for your continued support with keeping our students in correct uniform.
